Owen, the first player taken in the 1990 Entry Draft, is a big, strong winger who owns a hard shot from anywhere in the offensive zone. He had 51 goals and 111 points with Cornwall of the OHL in 1989-90 and was in the race for the scoring title until he missed the final eight games of the season with a shoulder separation. Owen had showed his toughness by drawing 240 penalty minutes – the third-highest total in the league.

“You look at all the qualities he has, add them up and you have a prototype for a Cam Neely-type player. That’s a dream for an NHL club,” said Nordiques’ director of player personnel Pierre Gauthier.
